Reading can be a social activity. Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now, the website BookCrossing.com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group.
Members go on the site and register the books they own and would like to share. BookCrossing provides an identification number to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it.
Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says, “The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. BookCrossing combines both.”
Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it.
People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. E-mails are then sent to the BookCrossing to keep them updated about where their books have been found. Bruce Peterson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home.
BookCrossing is part of a trend among people who want to get back to the "real" and not the virtual. The site now has more than one million members in more than one hundred thirty-five countries.
【1】What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The identification number. B.An adventure.
C.A public place. D.The book.
【2】What will a BookCrosser do with a book after reading it?
A.Meet other readers to discuss it. B.Keep it safe in his bookcase.
C.Pass it on to another reader. D.Mail it back to its owner.
【3】What is the best title for the text?
A.Online Reading: A Virtual Tour B.Electronic Books: A new Trend
C.A Book Group Brings Tradition Back D.A Website Links People through Books

【1】D
【2】C
【3】D
根据划线词上文“Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds”可知然后,这个人把它放在一个公共场所,希望这本书会有一次冒险,和每一个发现这本书的新读者一起到处旅行。
根据第四段“Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it.(成员可以把书留在公园长凳上,公交车上,火车站和咖啡厅。发现书的人就去网站登记他们在哪找到它的)”以及倒数第二段“People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. E-mails are then sent to the BookCrossing to keep them updated about where their books have been found. Bruce Peterson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home.” 结合网站BookCrossing.com的目的正是鼓励人们与别人分享图书,可推知,BookCrossing.com会将一本读完书的传给另一位读者。故选C。
【3】
根据第三段“Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says, ‘The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. BookCrossing combines both.’”

The oldest and most common source of renewable energy known to man, biomass(生物质) is one of the most important forms energy production in the United States and elsewhere. Since such a wide variety of biomass materials is everywhere — from trees and grasses to agricultural and city — life wastes —biomass promises to play a continuing role in providing power and heat for millions of people around the world.
According to the Union of Concerned Scientists(UCS), biomass is a kind of renewable energy source that produces no carbon dioxide(二氧化碳), because the energy it contains comes from the sun. When plant matter is burned, it gives off the sun’s energy. In this way, biomass serves as a sort of natural battery(电池) for storing the sun’s energy. As long as biomass is produced continuously —with only as much grown as is used— the “battery” lasts forever.
According to the Energy Information Administration, biomass has been one of the leading renewable energy sources in the United States for several years running through 2007, making up between 0.5 and 0.9 percent of the nation’s total electricity supply. In 2008-although the numbers aren’t all in yet-wind power probably took over first place because of the rapid development of wind farms across the country.
Producing power from biomass helps reduce some 11 million tons of carbon dioxide each year. Some homeowners also try to make their own heat by using biomass materials. Such practice may save homeowner’s money, but it also produces a lot of pollution. So, the best way is to encourage power plants to use it.
【1】We learn from the text that in 2008 ______.
A.Wind power would be the leader of renewable energy.
B.there was a rapid growth of electricity production
C.biomass might become the main energy source
D.0.5~0.9 of power supply came from biomass
【2】Why does the author encourage power plants to use biomass?
A.To prevent the waste of energy.
B.To increase production safety.
C.To reduce pollution.
D.To save money.
【3】Where does the text probably come from?
A.A research plan. B.A science magazine
C.A book review. D.A business report.

【1】A
【2】C
【3】B
根据第三段中的“In 2008—although the numbers aren't all in yet—wind power probably took over first place because of the rapid development of wind farms across the country.” 2008年,尽管数字还没有全部统计出来,但由于风力发电场在全国的快速发展,风力发电可能占据了首位。 故选A。
【2】
根据最后一段中的“Some homeowners also try to make their own heat by using biomass materials. Such practice may save homeowners' money, but it also produces a lot of pollution. So, the best way is to encourage power plants to use it.”

Making a Good First Impression
It's important to make a good first impression with people. Whether they're a customer or a potential friend, you want them to think highly of you. If they don't, you're not likely to make much progress moving forward. 【1】 Before you've even opened your mouth, people have already formed an opinion of you based on your body language. With that in mind, it's a good idea to change how you present yourself to ensure you're not giving off a bad atmosphere.
♦ It's all in the face.
Any honest and fair person is going to be looking at your face when you're talking to them. Of course, that means whatever is going on up there will be picked apart more than anything else you do. 【2】 In the right circumstances, it will express warmth and show you to be welcoming, something that's unbelievably important for the first impression. Moreover, make sure to keep eye contact as often as possible・ It shows that you're focusing on them, especially when they're talking.
♦ 【3】
So many of us close our arms without thinking about it,but that's one of the biggest no-nos when it comes to first impressions. Standing there with your arms folded is going to set you apart from the crowd for all the wrong reasons. 【4】 This will drive people away from you very quickly and make a poor first impression.
♦ Show your interest.
【5】 The wrong movements or positions can signal that you don't care what the other person has to say. Fortunately, there are non-verbal cues (暗示)you can make which will show your interest without going overboard. These include things like leaning forward and giving purposeful nods. Small gestures like this show that you're taking part in the conversation and not invested (投入的)in something happening over their shoulder.
A.Open up your body.
B.Stand close to others in conversation.
C.Show your interest when others are talking.
D.However, there's more to the first impression than what you say.
E.Body language shows whether you're interested in someone or not.
F.It gives people the impression that you're bored and don't want to be there.
G.Make sure that you smile as often as possible if it's acceptable in the situation.

【1】D
【2】G
【3】A
【4】F
【5】E
A项切题。故选A项。
【4】

Dad put his hand into my basket. "What's that?" he asked.
"Mew," said the basket.
Dad pulled his hand away. "Oh no," he said. "Not a cat. No way. I don't want a cat around. You send it on its way."
Dad had a kind heart, but he had no interest in cats. Dad was a horse man. His dream was to own a horse.
I pulled Checkers from the basket. "It's not a cat. It's a kitten (小猫). What a pretty kitten! Can I keep him? Please?"
Dad thought for a minute. "You'll have to take good care of him."

"That cat!" Dad shouted.
Checkers climbed onto our roof. He had no trouble getting down. Usually he aimed (瞄准) for Dad.
"That cat!" Dad shouted.
Checkers flushed (冲洗) the toilet and watched the water circle away.

Checkers hid in strange places. He liked to surprise people. One day he hid under the sofa. Dad walked by with a glass of orange juice. Checkers jumped out. He scratched (抓) Dad's left leg. Orange juice fell all over the floor. Dad got angry and put Checkers outside.
"Go away, cat," he said. And he shut the door. I watched from the Checkers looked sad as he walked down the road.

One possible version:
After supper I called for Checkers but he didn't come. Nighttime came. I called and called. But still no Checkers. I left the light on. But the next morning Checkers still wasn't there. I worried about him very much. I took a picture of Checkers to all the neighbors. I drew posters and hung them all over. But nobody found Checkers. Days went by. Life wasn't the same without that cat. I was angry with Dad. I didn't think he missed Checkers at all.
Then one night the phone rang. "We'll be right over," said Dad. We drove to a nearby farm. The farmer opened the door. Out ran a black-and-white cat "Checkers!" I cried. Checkers mewed. We rubbed noses, "I missed you!" I said. The farmer smiled. "Good thing I saw that advertisement in the paper." I looked at Dad. "You put an ad in the paper?" Dad's face turned red. He nodded. He petted Checkers. "It's good to have him back," he said.
